Family Business Alliance Ambassadors are volunteers for FBA who are committed to helping members get the most out of their membership. They are all individuals who have been very involved with the organization and have used resources and programs to help strengthen their businesses and families. Ambassadors are available as a resource to our members for any questions they may have from a member’s perspective.

Ross Haan is one of FBA’s committed ambassadors serving the family business community on his own time. Get to know Ross Haan with his answers to our questionnaire below.
How did you first get involved in FBA?
I was invited as a guest to the annual FBA event many years ago and was impressed by the relevance of the speaker and tangible, practical information shared. The warm welcome from FBA members was genuine and memorable as well.
Why is FBA important to you?
The FBA has been an invaluable resource as I’ve navigated the highs and lows of running a family business. The shared sense of purpose and members’ willingness to help, advise, or simply serve as a sounding board is incredible. The seminars and speakers focused specifically on family business are also something you can’t find anywhere else.
What has been your favorite FBA event or activity?
Joining a NowGen peer group has been the most impactful for me. Journeying closely with a few other business leaders in a safe, confidential space has allowed for honest conversations and the courage to ask hard questions.
Why do you think family businesses are important to West Michigan?
Business is a powerful force for good in our society and family businesses have the ability to amplify that impact even further. West Michigan, in particular, is uniquely blessed by a strong family business culture. Our community has benefited from it for generations. That doesn’t happen by accident, and helping to ensure that continues is important to me.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
I love the outdoors. It’s downhill skiing in the winter and in the summer it’s time on the water, sailing or boating, as well as hiking with the family.
